Amongst the vines of Chateau Boyd-Cantenac in the noble Margaux terroir, a stone cross stands proudly, an emblem of the estate and keeper of the ancestral memory of this vineyard, which has always produced fabulous wines year in, year out. The cross bears the magnificent engraving “Heureux celui qui croit” (He who believes shall be happy), as if to encourage the land to produce an even better wine each year, and to implore the heavens to show generosity to the vines. In 1754, the Boyd family left their Irish homeland and came to settle at Cantenac. Chateau Boyd-Cantenac was born. It was not until 1932 that the Guillemet family, still the owners, bought the vineyard. If Chateau Boyd-Cantenac, 1855 Grand Cru Classe, charms by its subtlety, elegance and suppleness, La Croix de Boyd-Cantenac, boasts similar qualities. Lighter and fruitier, La Croix de Boyd-Cantenac is made with grapes from vine plots that are younger yet just as rich and promising as their elders.

Deep red in colour, this feminine wine has a generous bouquet dominated by lightly smoky vanilla notes and forest fruits: cherry and blueberry. The tannins are supple and very silky, giving a structured, balanced wine.

About the Brand

On 17 hectares, located in the heart of the siliceous gravels of the Margaux Appellation, these warm, naturally well-drained soils from the Quaternary permit roots to grow deep. The vineyard produces, depending on the vintage, from 45 000 to 90 000 bottles per year.
Ideal vine age averaging 42 years, optimum plant density of 10 000 vines per hectare and typical varietals: majority Cabernet Sauvignon, all come together to produce wines of rare quality and uncontested character, intense and with great finesse. Over the past two hundred years, the wines of Chateau Boyd-Cantenac have been made in the tradition of the great wines of Margaux.
The wines of Chateau Boyd-Cantenac are the result of their terroir, enhanced by man's passion to create. Belonging to the same family for four generations, these wines are recognized for being among the wines the most representative of the traditional Margaux style. Their magic is in being at the same time elegant, subtle, complex, dense, intense, fresh, long and with great finesse. With aging, for which they have a remarkable aptitude, each vintage affirms its personality and becomes a stirring testimony to the past.
