A Night with Icons at the Familia Torres Wine Dinner
Some evenings linger in the memory not just because of the flavours or the wines, but because of the sense of connection they create. The Icons Wine Dinner was a night that celebrated heritage, craftsmanship, and the joy of gathering.
On 3 July 2025, Albert Wines welcomed guests to Poolhouse at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur for an unforgettable dining experience. Set beside a tranquil pool and surrounded by lush greenery, the restaurant’s indoor space offered a refreshing escape from the city’s fast pace. With warm lighting, elegant table settings, and the quiet hum of conversation, the atmosphere struck a perfect balance between lively and intimate.
A Story Told Through Every Pour
At the heart of the evening was Familia Torres, one of Spain’s most respected winemaking families. With more than 150 years of history and five generations of winemaking expertise, Torres has remained true to its roots while embracing innovation. Every bottle tells a story that reflects the land, the people, and the spirit of its origin.
Guests were guided through each wine by Gil Serra Arnau, Brand Ambassador for Familia Torres. His engaging insights allowed guests to appreciate each pour on a deeper level, bringing attention to the craftsmanship and history behind every vintage. With each sip and story, the wines came to life, full of character and meaning.
A Culinary Journey in Five Courses
The dinner unfolded over five beautifully paired courses, each designed to highlight the wines of Familia Torres:
Starter
Roasted beetroot tostadas paired with Torre Penelas ‘Pazo das Bruxas’ Albariño. This fresh and floral white wine from Rías Baixas enhanced the earthy sweetness of the beetroot with its crisp, refreshing profile.
Seafood Course
Torched scallops served in a light coconut milk ceviche were matched with Milmanda Chardonnay. Elegant and smooth, the wine’s subtle oak influence complemented the dish’s tropical notes.
Lamb Course
Slow-roasted lamb cutlets with red pepper hummus and wild asparagus were paired with Salmos, a bold red from Priorat. With its mineral complexity, Salmos offered a dramatic contrast to the dish, echoing the rugged terrain of its vineyard origins.
Main Course
Grilled Black Angus striploin, served with truffle mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables, was paired with the legendary Mas La Plana Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 (Magnum). This celebrated Cabernet Sauvignon from Penedès delivered deep flavours of dark fruit and spice, with the structure to elevate the richness of the beef.
Dessert
A blueberry tart with vanilla cream rounded off the evening, perfectly complemented by Torres 30 Jaime I Brandy. With its warm, layered complexity, the brandy left a lingering finish that brought the evening to a close on a graceful note.
More Than a Meal
More than just a wine dinner, this was an evening that honoured legacy, innovation, and the beauty of shared experiences. Each pairing told a unique story and together, they showcased the dedication and passion that define Familia Torres.
