达尔摩 12 年威士忌香气复杂，风味独特，被公认为一款远超其年份的威士忌。这是安德鲁·麦肯齐的原创杰作，与当时的常规做法截然不同。当时，威士忌的陈酿时间通常不超过 6 年，而安德鲁·麦肯齐则通过将陈酿时间延长一倍，展现了他的先锋精神。他的大胆尝试确实获得了回报，达尔摩 12 年威士忌至今仍是独一无二的威士忌，一如既往。

最初，烈酒在美国白橡木波本威士忌酒桶中陈酿九年，然后进行分装，以达到最后的陈酿效果。一半留在波本威士忌酒桶中，另一半则转移到 30 年陈酿的 Gonzalez Byass Matusalem oloroso 雪利酒桶中，然后再混合在一起，酿造出这款出色的威士忌。
