The Warre’s 2010 Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) was matured in wood up to four years after which it was bottled in 2014 without any fining or filtering. It was then aged in bottle for another eight years in the Warre’s lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia prior to being offered for sale. It is usual for Warre’s LBVs to continue ageing in bottle in the Warre’s lodge for a longer period than required, i.e. 4 years in bottle, after four years in wood. This prolonged ageing, first in wood and then in bottle is key to the development of the sumptuous nose and Flavours that lend this Port a style and complexity akin to that of Vintage Port. Most LBV Ports produced today are matured exclusively in wood and filtered before bottling and placed on the market without any bottle ageing. Warre’s traditional method of maturation, marrying both wood and bottle ageing, combined with its concentration and deep complexity, distinguishes it from most other LBVs currently available.

Description

The extended bottle aging allows the wine to develop a sophisticated bouquet with aromas of ripe dark fruits, such as blackberries and plums, complemented by notes of spices, chocolate, and a hint of floral undertones. On the palate, Warre's Bottle Aged LBV Port is full-bodied and velvety, showcasing concentrated flavors of rich fruit, balanced by well-integrated tannins and a long, smooth finish. The wine's structure and finesse make it an excellent choice for enjoying on its own or paired with a variety of dishes, including cheeses, chocolate desserts, and roasted meats.

About the Brand

Warre’s, founded in 1670, was the first British Port company established in Portugal and therefore the pioneer of a great tradition; its history is synonymous with that of Port itself. William Warre, from the Oporto family of Port producers, fought with the Anglo-Portuguese army led by the Duke of Wellington, at nearly every major battle in the Peninsular war (1807-1814). These battles re-established Portugal’s independence. Warre’s Warrior Reserve Port is the first and oldest Port brand in the world, having been shipped continuously since 1750.
The Symington Family is descended from Andrew James Symington and Beatrice Atkinson who were married in Oporto in 1891. Andrew James arrived as a young man from Scotland in 1882 and was admitted to partnership in the firm of Warre & Co. in 1905. Currently six members of the Symington family (five from the 13th generation in the Port trade) are actively involved in Warre’s day to day management, with the dedication and long-term commitment that are unique to a family-run business. From the vineyards through the winemaking, ageing and blending, a member of the family is directly responsible for every bottle of Warre’s Port produced.
