This fairly uncommon Gin comes from the Black Forest in Germany, Monkey 47 contains a fairly unusual ingredient: Cranberries! The 47 comes from the number of botanicals that go into this unique gin, and the fact it’s bottled at a healthy 47%. Predictably complex, this is a robust and powerful gin with plenty of spice, fruit and herb flavours. It’s very well structured, and difficult to unpick but a citrus fresh start segues into pine and wood notes for a drying finish.

This pale-yellow-colour wine has aromas of apricot and flint. It fills the mouth with flavors of nectarine, pineapple, orange blossom and herbes de Provence. It is full textured for a White Wine, with a sense of weight on the palate that is offset by vibrant acidity.

Crafted from the Fuentelún parcel, the 35-year-old area of the estate, where vines emerge from the sandy soils in rows from north to south.  This Reserva strikes a beautiful balance between power and elegance, showcasing the region’s capacity for both ripe fruit expression and refined structure. This wine reveals layered aromas of dark berries, savory herbs, and elegant spice, supported by firm yet polished tannins and a lingering sense of freshness.  

Following fermentation, the Reserva is matured for 24 months in French oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop depth and complexity while integrating tertiary notes. The extended barrel ageing promotes rich texture, fine grain tannins, and subtle notes of cedar, vanilla, and smoke, resulting in a wine that harmonizes fruit, wood, and terroir for an expressive, age-worthy profile.

With its distinctive, arch-shaped bottle, Martell XO is a powerful symbol of inspiration – a testimony to Jean Martell’s visionary spirit. This is stunning. Troplong never has trouble conjuring up wonderfully rich fruit, but here it is plump and dense without being pumped up. The tannins are chewy rather than chalky, but the elegance of the vintage is unmistakable, and the rich chocolate flavours are dusted with mint. There is a very pretty salinity on the finish that lasts for minutes. I had a fascinating visit here at the start of the week, and retasted several times as this is a wine that I sometimes have trouble understanding. My main takeout is that the majority of the richness here is found naturally in the terroir – limestone on the plateau but with cool clay over the top, which explains why they are such late harvesters. But there are always winemaking and viticultural choices coming into play in any wine, and here there are adjustments being made to bring out a more finely wrought version of what is always a high impact and successful wine. Yields are higher this year, up at 48hl/ha, which helps, as does the style of the vintage and quieter extraction in the cellar, but Troplong remains true to itself.

This blend of Chardonnay & Sauvignon Blanc offers a very bright color with green reflections; Fresh, floral and expresses white fruits such as peaches and pears Elegant attack, round and fresh with a hint of minerality. Good finish on white fruits with a beautiful acidity.

Made from a blend of Melon’s including the Yubari and Musk melons combined with Neutral spirits to enhance the natural flavours, melon distillate and Louis Royer Brandy to add depth and richness. Midori is that unexpected ingredient that delivers a truly great cocktail.

The 2010 Haut Bailly has consistently been a fantastic wine, and at seven years of age I have no reason to alter that view. It has a mixture of red and black fruit on the nose, wet stone, black olive and a light marine influence. It is still backward compared to other vintages, but it has not relinquished one iota of its intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. This is a voluminous Haut Bailly, one that is beginning to stretch its muscles, with a gentle grip in the mouth with a wonderful saline finish. There is huge potential locked into this wine, but patience is needed. 

Savitar, the flagship Mitolo Shiraz, is powerful yet elegant, opulent, brooding and intense. Immense lift, the aromatics are an incredibly intense amalgam of blackcurrant, menthol, licorice and cedar oak. The palate shows a hugely complex flavor profile befitting of its pedigree. Characters of black fruits, dried herbs, and earthy tones of licorice and savory leather.

Pipe tobacco, spiced plum, menthol, and blue flowers are some of the aromas you’ll find in this enveloping wine. Full-bodied and savoury, the structured, generous palate combines muscle and finesse, doling out fleshy morello cherry, raspberry jam, liquorice, and a dollop of vanilla alongside velvety tannins. It’s already approachable but will age well for several years or more.

Billowing soft peat notes, like distant smoke on the wind. Rich sweet toffee with zesty fresh fruit notes and spiciness. On the palate, it taste like a Highland peat campfire, with oak notes and toffee. Sharp green fruit, sweet baked apple and soft smoke. Lingering smokiness and sweetness on the finish.

Belvedere is a luxury vodka from the Warsaw suburb of Å»yrardow, Poland. It can trace the process back over 600 years. Belvedere is distilled solely from a single type of grain, the DaÅ„kowskie ZÅ‚ote rye. It was the world’s first super premium vodka. It is made in small batches that are distilled longer- the lengthy distillation of the drink is said to make it much smoother. Belvedere Vodka has notes of vanilla and rye on the palate, the finish is crisp and clean with lingering white pepper spice. It has a distinctive creamy mouth feel. Its aromas are a blend of vanilla, rye and white pepper.
