Camus ‘XO Elegance’ demands years of patience and meticulous work. The first step involves rigorous selection of the eaux-de-vie, ensuring that they completement one another to reveal the full potential of these famous Cognac crus – such as the precious Borderies that round off this blend with their trademark finesse and superb ageing potential. Next comes a lengthy maturing process, in damp cellars with each cru beginning to express its unique harmony and personality. Camus ‘XO Elegance’ is a perfect blend of fresh primary aromas straight from the vine, backed with the maturity which comes from a truly accomplished ageing process.
The flower-scented bouquet enriched by dried fruit and crunchy almonds already provide a harmony of the senses. This full and stimulating fragrance of the Camus XO Elegance Cognac also continues in the mouth. Here hazelnuts can be clearly discovered which emulate with a gentle hint of vanilla beans. Like a coat, the aroma of ripe plum lies down on the tongue and gives a rich and round body to the tasters.
The finish is smooth, long-lasting and spicy. The sweet facets of vanilla beans and plums linger. The almonds come more to the fore, accompanied by slightly peppery sounds and a touch of oak. This Camus XO in addition boasts a soothing resonance which remains very positive in memory for a long while.

Douglas Laing’s Timorous Beastie, immortalised in Robert Burns’ famous Scots poem ‘To a Mouse‘, was a timid, little field mouse. Echoing our national bard’s wit, ours is most certainly not for the fainthearted! This non-coloured, non-chill-filtered Small Batch bottling is a marriage of appropriately aged and selected Highland Malts – including, amongst others, those distilled at Glen Garioch, Dalmore and Glengoyne distilleries.
Overridingly sweet initially, then warming to floral, light barley and spicy honeyed tones. Opens in a spicy style with fructiferous notes of raisin and a sugary, fudgey character. Subtle yet sweet with a real oaky flavour, hints of milky cereals and late meringue.
Possibly the wine of the vintage, the 2017 Vieux Chateau Certan is a blend of 81% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from the highest point on the Pomerol plateau. Deep purple, with a heavenly bouquet of creme de cassis, blueberries, scorched earth, crushed violets, tobacco, and earth, this beauty is full-bodied, has incredible depth of fruit, ripe, present tannins, integrated acidity, and a great finish. This estate has been on fire of late, and this is undoubtedly a worthy follow-on to the otherworldly 2015 and 2016. It has the depth of fruit and texture to offer pleasure even today, yet a solid 7-8 years of cellaring are warranted, and it should be long-lived.

Toki is a blended whisky from Suntory’s three distilleries: Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita. Toki has a different composition to another Suntory blend, Hibiki, as its main components are Hakashu single malt and Chita grain whisky. This is a round and sweet blend with a refreshing citrus character with a hint of vanilla oak, white pepper and ginger and a spicy finish.

The effect of the sakura wood on this dram are outstanding. On the nose, it brings ripe banana, candied chestnuts, cinnamon and hints of pine. As you continue to sniff, there’s a distinct warming woodiness reminiscent of a sauna. These combine with a centre palate woodiness, sandalwood and gentle spice, before sweet cherries cut through the more savoury notes, leading to a floral, spring-like finish. A little water brings out hints of hibiscus and Turkish delight, with lingering peppery notes that all mingle elegantly.

The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 year old single malt whisky gains its distinctive character from being matured in two wood types. To make The Balvenie DoubleWood, David Stewart MBE takes whisky that has spent at least 12 years in traditional whisky casks, American Oak ex-Bourbon barrels and hogsheads, and moves it to Spanish oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks for an additional nine months. Each stage lends different qualities to the resulting single malt whisky.

A blend of 54% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot, the deep garnet-purple colored, 2017 Palmer gives a very serious nose of pronounced blackcurrant cordial, warm plums and blackberry preserves with hints of cedar chest, pencil shavings, violets, dark chocolate and star anise plus exotic wafts of sandalwood and cassia. Medium-bodied, the palate features fantastically vibrant, crunchy black fruits with a firm texture of ripe, grainy tannins and tons of freshness, finishing very long and mineral laced. It will need a good 5-7 years to really blossom with all those tightly wound nuances, but it should be a stunner!

Crafted with 47% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot, this is rich and dramatically sweeping in the glass, the 2016 is breathtaking. All the elements simply fall into place in a wine of mesmerizing beauty. The counterpoint of dark, sumptuous fruit and floral notes makes for an utterly compelling Palmer that will take its place among the estate’s finest vintages. This beautiful wine with a lemon-yellow color with clear and brilliant reflections, demonstrates a beautiful aromatic intensity. The tangy flesh of this white makes it very delicious. Brightly lemony with a slight fat, it is marked by pleasant anise flavors. This white opens with juicy notes of pear, candied lemon (tart) and a mineral touch (flint). On the palate it shows a beautiful amplitude with a lively and tasty balance. Superb minty finish marked by beautiful flavors of ripe white fruits (vine peach). The 2016 La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion, crafted with 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36.5% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc, is just as captivating from bottle as it was from barrel. Fresh, silky and inviting, the Chapelle is all class. Floral notes lead into a core of expressive red cherry and plum fruit. Medium in body, silky and exquisite in its balance, the 2016 has so much to recommend it. I would prefer to give the wine a few years in bottle to allow a broader range of aromas and flavors to develop, but even today, the Chapelle is gorgeous. The 21% Cabernet Franc in the blend adds striking brightness and perfume throughout.

The complex and harmonious combination of aromas of this elegant, noble wine elevate it to truly world-class status. Beautiful golden yellow in colour. Very intense, complex aroma with notes of fruit (citrus and peach compote) over a very fine background of vanilla. Oily and very big on the palate with superb acidity, pleasantly expressing the fruity notes of the aroma.

The Glenrothes has been producing Speyside Single Malts since 1879. The Glenrothes’s distillery is in Rothes in the heart of Speyside which is acknowledged by connoisseurs as the source of Scotland’s finest single malts; indeed, it has the highest density of distilleries of any region. This is due to the unusually clement climate experienced in this area and the ample supply of soft water provided by the river Spey.
