The 2016 Chateau Margaux is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc, plus 1% of Petit Verdot, representing 28% of the total production. Lucid in color, it has a detailed and precise bouquet with mineral-rich blackberry, raspberry coulis and limestone scents. It feels very perfumed, though not powerful like many Grand Vins in 2016. The palate is a different creature to the aromatics. Here is the intensity of the vintage with shimmering black fruit laced with spice, a killer line of acidity and an irresistible crescendo on the finish. Then, graphite lingering on the aftertaste, a nod to Pauillac perhaps. The aftertaste is so long you could probably write a letter to your friend enthusing about this wine before the aftertaste fades. Doubtless it is destined to be compared to the magnificent '15 Chateau Margaux and to be truthful, there’s a hair’s breadth between them. In a worDecanter: crystalline. Drink 2026-2070.

Very pale straw colour, clean citrus and floral notes are complex with fresh cream and bread dough aromas. The fine bubbles provide a creamy texture, while the delicate acidity balances the fresh fruit.

Pale straw in colour with a lively green tinge. The nose displays freshly crushed grapes, with lemon scents and a hint of musk. The palate is lively and fresh as one would expect from a frizzante style wine. The palate tastes of freshly crushed grapes with just a squeeze of lemon & ginger on the finish. The fruit was picked and pressed cold, in new state of the art bag presses. Juice was left to settle naturally and then racked clean. The wine was fermented cold to retain fresh fruit characters. Fermentation was stopped once a balance was reached between alcohol, sweetness, acidity and bubbles.

Consistently one of the gems of the Southern Rhone, ‘Les Hauts de Julien’ has a slightly Northern Rhone-like style. Beautiful deep ruby-red colour with purple undertones. The nose reveals a seductive aromatic bouquet with notes of black fruit and graphite. Powerful and silky on the palate, this wine offers round, soft tannins with very concentrated aromas of very ripe fruit, liquorice and amaretto, mixed with floral and marshmallow notes. The mouth has a long finsih with aromatic persistence.

So what does Havana Club Anejo 7 Anos taste like? It’s a simple answer: just like a fine wine, it’s the taste of the cuban terroir that comes through, from the world famous cuban tobacco, to the rich and sweet fruits of a Cuban garden to spices and vanilla flavour brought by long ageing. And you can even taste the raw material used to make the rum: Cuban sugarcane. Coat the sides of the glass with the rum, then shake it off to discard the last drops, leave it to dry and then, after 20 minutes, smell. Only a a great rum leaves off aromas in a glass for a such a long time.

Bin 8 has been crafted in the traditional Penfolds style. Ripe, balanced fruit flavours are supported by softly integrated oak resulting in a silky, smooth Red Wine. It was introduced in response to an interest in Cabernet Shiraz blends – a classic Australian wine style that caught the attention of the international wine media. Although Bin numbers were originally named after the original binning location after bottling, Bin 8 was given its number because it uses older oak previously used for Bin 128, Bin 28 and Bin 389 – with ‘8’ obviously providing the common thread.

Boysenberry ice cream flavours flesh out the sumptuous palate, bolstered by Moroccan tagine spices and cumin roasted pumpkin. Earthy spices are rounded out by an invigorating red currant succulence. Tannins are powdery clearly showing the influence of cabernet sauvignon. A very focussed wine with plenty of flesh ably supported by well integrated oak.

A beautiful, Classic Chablis: light, crisp, mineral and without oak, with a nicely developed bouquet with lingering aromas of flower and citrus. Opens with lightly spiced, white orchard fruits with a fresh mineral touch. On aeration, a subtle, mineral note appears. Good persistence. Fresh and full in the mouth with a delicate mineral tension. Long mineral finish. A superb Chablis with great character.

The balance between sweetness, that comes with sunniness and the grapes, full maturity, and salinity that comes with limestone, allows Bargylus to convey a strong soil identity and an inimitable taste. Fading yellow with light green reflections. The noses expresses exotic fruit aromas of papaya and lemon with a touch of saltiness as well. On the pallet the wine is very elegant, round, keeping a lot of freshness due to a good acidity – bringing great ageing potential.
