Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Clinet opens slowly to reveal vibrant red and black fruits: red currants, black cherries, plums and cassis with touches of roses, yeast extract, wood smoke and crushed rocks. Medium-bodied with firm, grainy tannins and a taut, muscular palate of tightly wound fruits and compelling mineral accents, it finishes long with wonderful purity and fragrant earth accents. The tannins here will need 4-5 years of bottle age, and I’d lean toward drinking bottles over the following decade. 

This 12-year-old Speyside single malt comes from the new Mortlach range, launched in 2018. Known as ‘the Beast of Dufftown’, Mortlach is distilled 2.81 times in a complicated process referred to simply as ‘The Way’. This single malt, dubbed ‘The Wee Witchie’, is matured in American and European oak ex-bourbon and sherry casks before being bottled at 43.4% abv. It’s drawn from bourbon and sherry casks, and packs a hearty punch of meaty Mortlach-y malt at its core, supported by dried fruit and toffee notes. Meaty and sulphurous, this expression showcases the raw character of the distillery.

No.3 is the London Dry Gin distilled to a proprietary recipe of Berry Bros. & Rudd, London’s oldest wine and spirit merchant. The name No.3 refers to our address in St James’s Street, London.

Delicate colour takes centre stage with a luminous pale salmon pink, enlivened by shades of orange. Mumm Cordon Rose has intense fruit aromas – fresh strawberries, cherries and redcurrants – with a swirling undercurrent of vanilla and caramel. Lively, energetic and perfectly dry in the attack, revealing hints of summer fruits yet with an unexpected arrow of precision running right through to the long savoury finish.

Modest but sure of its presence, Clinet lies at one of the highest points upon the renowned plateau at the heart of Pomerol – instantly recognisable by its red shutters and beautiful roses. It is home to one of the oldest vineyards in the appellation, with traces of the vineyard’s existence dating back to 1595. This vineyard is equally famed for offering wine with an incomparable character and quality. 

Clinet has been on a hot streak lately and the 2009 appears to be the greatest wine ever made at the estate, surpassing even the late Jean-Michel Arcaute’s monumental 1989. A blend of 85% Merlot and tiny amounts of Cabernet Franc (12%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (3%), this big Pomerol boasts an opaque, moonless night inky/blue/purple color in addition to a gorgeous perfume of blueberry pie, incense, truffles, black raspberries, licorice and wood smoke. Viscous and multi-dimensional with silky, sweet tannin, massive fruit concentration and full-bodied power, there are nearly 4,000 cases of this thick, juicy, perfect Clinet. It should drink well in 3-5 years and keep for 25-30 years.

Rose Majeur is the perfect embodiment of the originality and finesse of the House’s wines. Made predominantly from Chardonnay it is crafted with the addition of a small proportion of Pinot Noir from the best crus of the Montagne de Reims. A low dosage enables it to express the House style, both feminine and generous, with great elegance.

Pale, with a delicate pink hue. Charming, generous and open. Reveals aromas of red berries (strawberries, raspberries) and vine peaches. Light yet expressive. Shows great freshness, due to the high proportion of chardonnay in the blend. Notes of red gooseberries and raspberries, with a lengthy and voluptuous finish.

The blend for 2010 is largely dominated by 85% Merlot, with some Cabernet Sauvignon and a small amount of Cabernet Franc also included. Inky/purple-colored, the wine has an exceptionally full-bodied, layered, moderately tannic mouthfeel and impressive power. Loads of melted chocolate/fudge and black fruits galore along with some coffee bean, mocha, as well as some background oak are all present in this big, formidably endowed, masculine style of Pomerol that will take longer to shed its tannin than the 2009. I would give this wine 5-6 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 30+ years. 

Chateau Croizet-Bages 2000’s deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by creamy, black currant, cedar, and toast aromas, excellent purity, a rich, medium-bodied style, and sweet tannin in the moderately long finish. This lovely effort offers loads of fruit, sweet tannin, medium body, admirable delineation as well as purity, and surprising length.

In the first experiment of its kind, Malt Master Brian Kinsman collaborated with Seb Jones, an entrepreneurial Speyside brewer, to create a new craft IPA and pioneer the way for a new kind of single malt Scotch whisky. Brewed in bespoke craft IPA barrels, this single malt expression is imbued with unique zesty citrus notes of ripe green apple, William’s pear and spring blossom. Complemented by the subtle tang of fresh hops followed by a long lasting sweetness. This malt is proof that remarkable feats can be achieved when great people get together.

Sena 2020 is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec, 15% Carmenere and 7% Petit Verdot, aged for 22 months in 90% French oak barrels (78% new) and 10% Foudres.  With a deep and beautiful garnet-red colour with violet hues, it presents complexity on the nose with multiple layers of fresh red-fruit aromas such as cherries and raspberries accompanied by violets and pleasing touches of dill and rosemary, all framed by light notes of sweet spices.  The palate shows young fruits, more sweet spices, and smooth balsamic tones. It is fresh and juicy with elegant  ne-grained tannins that create to a silky and pleasing sensation.  The 2020 vintage of Seña shows elegance and balance with an ample and profound finish.

Sierra Milenario Tequila Reposado contains notes sweet fruit, caramel, and subtle spices. A light amber, golden colour. On the nose it is full of the intense fragrance of agaves harmonised with spices such as vanilla. It has an excellent balance of sherry cask and floral fragrances. In the mouth it has strong notes of agave with a subtle hint of pepper. Its finish is long with the subtle memory of sherry cask.

This wine is aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels and 12 months in the bottle; it offers dark ruby in the glass, blackberry, cocoa powder and crumbled sage aromas.
