The Alto de Piedras - Isla de Maipo vineyard, situated in Chile’s Maipo Valley, stands at 345 meters above sea level with 30-year-old vines-oriented northwest to southeast. The terrain is flat with just a 1% slope, and the soil consists of sandy loam with alluvial stones at 80 cm, locally known as Franco arenoso. Grapes were hand-harvested, destemmed, and cold soaked for 5 days in stainless steel tanks. Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation took place at 24-26°C for 6 days, followed by a 7-day maceration. The wine aged for 3 months in used French oak barrels before being transferred to a large 50 HL Stockinger foudres for an additional 17 months. Fermentation relied on ambient yeast and used stainless steel tanks as the primary vessel.

Description

On the palate, this Carmenere reveals concentrated layers of ripe black fruits, such as plum and blackberry, intertwined with subtle notes of red pepper, cocoa, and spice. The wine’s refined tannins, balanced acidity, and polished texture create a harmonious structure, leading to a persistent and expressive finish. Perfectly suited for pairing with grilled meats, game, and rich stews, Alto de Piedras embodies De Martino’s philosophy of crafting terroir-driven wines that combine depth, finesse, and a strong sense of place.
