Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Clinet opens slowly to reveal vibrant red and black fruits: red currants, black cherries, plums and cassis with touches of roses, yeast extract, wood smoke and crushed rocks. Medium-bodied with firm, grainy tannins and a taut, muscular palate of tightly wound fruits and compelling mineral accents, it finishes long with wonderful purity and fragrant earth accents. The tannins here will need 4-5 years of bottle age, and I’d lean toward drinking bottles over the following decade.

About the Brand

Listed as a 1st growth of Pomerol in 1893, Chateau Clinet’s history goes back to the 17th century. The estate was acquired in 1998 by Jean-Louis Laborde, and is now managed by Ronan Laborde. Located on the highest part of the famous Pomerol plateau, Clinet has an outstanding terroir. The vines are grown sustainably and most operations are done by hand.
The underground cellar enables winemaking operations to be performed with gravity flow, and to make the wine as naturally as possible. It ages in oak barrels and is neither fined nor filtered before bottling. Chateau Clinet is an elegant, intense, refined wine with complex aromas of red fruit, blackberry, and truffle. How to Open a Wine Bottle

Cut the foil below the lower lip.
Insert the screw into the cork's center.
Rotate the corkscrew 6 half turns.
Slowly lever the cork out.
