The Premier Crus vineyards of Domaine Chanson are aged in casks in the Bastion cellars; This cuvee is a blend of grapes sourced from selected plots among the Premiers Crus of the Domaine – Beaune Clos du Roi, Beaune Clos des Marconnets, Beaune Bressandes, Beaune Teurons, Beaune Champimonts, Beaune Clos des Mouches and Beaune Clos des Feves Monopole. This association of the different terroirs of Beaune Premiers Crus and among them the flagships of Chanson give to the wine a unique character and texture.

Description

Soil : Mix of clay and limestone

The Vintage 2020 : After a very mild winter, spring arrived with warm temperatures in March which engendered a very quick and sustained growth of the vines. After a very short frost episode early May with no consequence in the vineyards, a mild weather with some rains settled down until end of June. Summer was punctuated in July by several and quite long heat waves. Vineyards with a clay soil were less affected by the low level of rainfalls during spring and by the summer heat. The harvest in Burgundy started around August 20, which was historically early for the region. At Chanson, they started on August 24 under a bright sunshine. 2020 red wines are generous, concentrated and beautifully terroir-driven.

Tasting : Bright ruby colour. Intense aromas of ripe red berries mixed with spices and vanilla. Complex and well-balanced with a tight and deep texture. Well-shaped tannins. Long and spicy aftertaste.

Food pairing : Red meat grilled or en sauce and all sorts of cheeses, especially our local cheeses like Epoisses, Citeaux and Langres.

Today, the Bastion houses barrels across four levels, with the first three dedicated to red wines and the top floor reserved for whites.
