Sip & Slice: A Hands-On Pizza and Italian Wine Tasting Experience
We kicked off our second wine tasting event with Sip & Slice, combining interactive pizza-making with an incredible wine tasting session. It brought people together over delicious food, premium wines, and a relaxed, fun atmosphere.
The idea for this event came to me a few months back when I was thinking about how to make wine tastings more engaging. I’ve always found cooking to be a great way to unwind after a long week, and I wanted to share that experience with others. My goal was to create a space where people could connect with both the food they’re making and the wine they’re drinking, all in a fun, interactive way.

What Made Sip & Slice Special?

The Valoriani oven in action
At Sip & Slice, guests had the unique opportunity to craft their very own traditional Neapolitan pizza. What made this experience truly special was that the pizzas were baked in a Valoriani oven, one of the most revered pizza ovens in the world. Valoriani ovens are renowned for their craftsmanship and ability to bake pizzas to perfection. They retain high, even heat, ensuring the pizza develops that signature light and crispy crust essential for authentic Neapolitan-style pizza.
Guests stretched their own dough—a bit of a challenge due to the high hydration level. But that's what gives the crust its light and airy texture! After that, they topped their pizzas with DOP San Marzano Tomato Sauce and chose from a wide array of toppings, all imported directly from Italy. Whether it was DOP Fior di latte mozzarella, artichokes, mushrooms, basil, or decadent Italian truffle paste, there was something for every taste bud. With the expert guidance of Kristi Josifi, each pizza was baked to perfection in the Valoriani oven, resulting in a truly delicious pizza!

Of course, no Albert Wines event would be complete without an incredible selection of wines. For Sip & Slice, we showcased the world-renowned Santa Margherita, a winery famous for setting the benchmark for Pinot Grigio. Alongside Santa Margherita, we featured Lamole di Lamole and Torresella wines, all part of the Gruppo Santa Margherita family. Like Albert Wines, these are family-owned estates with a strong focus on producing quality wines.
Guests were treated to five outstanding wines:
- Santa Margherita Prosecco di Valdobbiadene Brut – A crisp, sparkling wine to kick off the afternoon.
- Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio 'Valdadige' – The star of the show, this iconic wine set the standard for all Pinot Grigios.
- Torresella Pinot Grigio Rosé – Light, refreshing, and perfect for a casual afternoon like this one.
- Lamole di Lamole 'Duelame' Chianti Classico – A robust red that paired beautifully with the pizzas.
- Lamole di Lamole 'Lareale' Chianti Classico Riserva – This was the clear favorite of the night, with many guests commenting on how well it complemented their pizzas. Its rich, full-bodied flavor balanced beautifully with the variety of toppings and the light crust.
How Pizza and Wine Brought Us Closer
Throughout the afternoon, it was clear that the combination of hands-on cooking and wine tasting was a hit. Guests didn't just enjoy tasting wine—they connected with the process of creating their food, which deepened their appreciation for the wines we were sipping. Whether it was the art of stretching dough or deciding on their perfect topping combination, everyone left with a sense of accomplishment (and full bellies!).
Continuing a Legacy with New Experiences
As we enjoyed the afternoon, I couldn't help but reflect on what this event meant to me personally. Being part of the second generation at Albert Wines & Spirits, it's both an honor and a privilege to continue what my father started over 30 years ago. His passion and dedication have built a strong foundation for our business. Hosting events like Sip & Slice allows us to build on that tradition while adding fresh, exciting experiences for people who love good food and great wine.
