Subtle, sweet and with a vanilla finish, Ballantine’s Finest blended whiskey was created in 1910 by the Ballantine’s family, blending over 40 single malts and superior grain Scotch whiskies. Soft, elegant, heather honey aromas with a hint of spice. Well balanced subtle flavours with tones of milk chocolate, red apple and vanilla. Ballantine’s 17yo is packed with flavour and opens with a nose of sweet caramel, vanilla and wooded notes. There is also a delicate smoky note that wafts through and mingles really well with the sweeter notes. It is dull and reassuring, giving the brighter flavours a backboard to bounce off. The palate is elegantly sweet. Caramel, vanilla and big notes of honey take over. These give it a smooth and mellow mouth feel as well. The honey is earthy and thick, with a really lovely orchard flavour to it. it ties in well with oak flavours and a little hint of spice that also appears. There is a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg that combine everything together and give a lovely warming sensation to the smoke.

The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 year old single malt whisky gains its distinctive character from being matured in two wood types. To make The Balvenie DoubleWood, David Stewart MBE takes whisky that has spent at least 12 years in traditional whisky casks, American Oak ex-Bourbon barrels and hogsheads, and moves it to Spanish oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks for an additional nine months. Each stage lends different qualities to the resulting single malt whisky.
The traditional casks soften and add delicate character, the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavour and the final few months in our tuns allow the whiskies to marry harmoniously. Sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry notes, layered with honey and vanilla. Smooth and mellow with beautifully combined flavours, nutty sweetness, cinnamon spiciness and a delicately proportioned layer of sherry.
The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 year old single malt whisky has been matured in traditional oak whisky casks for 14 years, and then ‘finished’ in casks that previously held Caribbean rum. To create the ideal finish Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE filled American oak casks with his own blend of select West Indian rums.
When he judged the casks to be ready, the rum was replaced with the 14 year old spirit and the wood was put to work adding the final touches. The result is an exceptional single malt whisky with the traditional smooth, honeyed character of The Balvenie married with notes of toffee and a hint of fruit, with a warm, lingering finish.
Oak-aged for 24 months, this shows a clear ruby red color. On the nose, the attack is fruity and floral at the same time with hints reminiscent of blackcurrants, blueberries and raspberries; floral notes reminiscent of violets and dog roses follow. This is followed by spicy notes reminiscent of black pepper, cloves and star anise. Delicate tertiary notes and freshness given by balsamic and citrus scents are also interesting. The palate reveals a nice acid-alcoholic component and the tannic texture is well present, dense and silky.

For the Riserva, the wine is aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 24 months. Brilliant purple wine with a floral nose dominated by violet and rosehip aromas. Blackcurrant fruity notes lead into marked spiced highlights of black pepper and nutmeg followed by underbrush and humus. The wine is fresh, complex and rich to the palate. The tannin structure is rich and dense as appropriate for the most authentic Sangiovese. The finish is persistent, harmonious and bequeaths pleasant memories of noble tobacco.

Deep ruby colour, the aroma is intense with elegant floral notes, particularly sweet violets, followed by fruity fragrances of dried plum and dark cherry. Concludes with spicy nuances of roasted espresso bean, notes of vanilla, and black liquorice. The palate shows excellent structure and balance with delicate, soft tannins. The finish is long, with an aftertaste of wild berries.
