The 2017 Haut-Brion was picked from 31 August to 29 September, the longest harvest ever, matured in 69% new oak. It has a more generous bouquet than the La Mission Haut-Brion at this point: black cherries, blueberry, a little confit fruit, hints of warm gravel and clove. It is much more restrained than the previous vintages – cooler and linear. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, nicely structured with more grip in the mouth than the La Mission. What it has in common with the aforementioned is a sense of symmetry. It feels very persistent with a light marine/oyster shell influence on the finish. This probably has the edge over the La Mission Haut-Brion at the moment, but intra-family competitiveness aside, it boils down to a great follow-up to the brilliant 2015 and 2016. Drink from 2022 to 2050.

The 2017 Gruaud Larose was picked from 15 to 20 September for the Merlot and from 21 to 3 October for the Cabernets, fermented in wood and cement tanks and aged in French oak, 80% new for 18 to 24 months. Quite deep in colour, it has an introverted bouquet at first that demands a lot of coaxing from the glass. There are notes of black cherry, iodine and just a touch of pencil lead. The palate is medium-bodied with finely balanced. An unpretentious but pretty Gruaud Larose that is benefitted by what is clearly a prudent extraction. The oak is neatly integrated with a linear, almost pastille-like finish and quite a sustained aftertaste. Drink 2022 – 2040.

An amazing wine in every sense, this classic, full-bodied Pauillac is the quintessential Pontet Canet from proprietor Alfred Tesseron, who continues to reduce yields and farms his vineyards biodynamically a rarity in Bordeaux. Black as a moonless night, the 2009 Pontet Canet offers up notes of incense, graphite, smoke, licorice, creme de cassis and blackberries.
A wine of irrefutable purity, laser-like precision, colossal weight and richness, and sensational freshness, this is a tour de force in winemaking that is capable of lasting 50 or more years. The tannins are elevated, but they are sweet and beautifully integrated as are the acidity, wood and alcohol (which must be in excess of 14%). This vineyard, which is situated on the high plateau of Pauillac adjacent to Mouton Rothschild, appears to have done everything perfectly in 2009. This cuvee should shut down in the cellar and re-open in a decade or more.

This label dedicated to Maurizio Zanella is the perfect synthesis of the Cantina’s history, its values of excellence and the vocation of the Franciacorta territory to produce also great reds for ageing. A Bordeaux blend with a strong personality and character, among the most interesting Italian expressions of this type of wine. In the glass, it has an intense ruby-red colour. The bouquet expresses the aromas of small berries, blackberry and blueberry jam, spices, and woody and balsamic hints. The palate has an important structure with deep aromas, a tannic texture well integrated with the body of the wine and pleasant freshness.

2005 was an exceptional vintage, and Chateau Croizet-Bages display its great potential. The wine has a dark ruby color, with aromas of ripe blackcurrant and some notes of spice on the nose. Good volume in the mouth, excellent material, rich, with beautiful tannins.

The deep garnet colored 2009 Montrose features beautiful Black Forest cake, licorice, creme de cassis and warm blueberries scents with hints of charcoal, truffles, tapenade and menthol plus a waft of star anise. The palate is full-bodied, rich, super concentrated and yet superbly harmonious with a firm backbone of ripe, grainy tannins and wonderful freshness, finishing long and mineral laced.

This wine is crafted from Merlot vines planted in our vineyards in 1997, along with a small percentage of Petit Verdot, a variety we have been cultivating since 2006. The name "3055" is a nod to Jean Leon’s New York cab license number, revealing the man behind the legend: an idealist who rose from humble beginnings to achieve his dream of opening the most famous restaurant in Hollywood and creating his own namesake wine.
This wine is aromatic, elegant, seductive, velvety, and contemporary, made from Merlot and Petit Verdot grown in organic vineyards. It boasts a very intense nose and a medium-bodied, balanced palate with pronounced notes of red fruit and spices. Enjoy its long, lingering finish..

The production of Montes Alpha M is extremely limited and vintages are only released if our head winemaker, Aurelio Montes considers the quality of the wine to be of a good enough standard. Production starts by selecting individual grapes at harvest time. This wine, from the Apalta Valley (a sub-region of Colchagua), is one of the best and most awarded Chilean wines.
The vineyards that give rise to our Montes Alpha M are located in the Colchagua Valley, at our Finca de Apalta estate. The soils are of granitic origin and vary in clay content, depth, organic matter, and in particular, the quantity of rocks and stones found in them, which range from fluvial to glacial in origin, highlighting the great diversity of soils. Some areas also show the influence of the nearby Tinguiririca River, while higher up, material from the long-term erosion of the valley’s mountainside is evident. The soils are deep in the flatter areas and thinner at the foot of the mountains, where the Cabernet Sauvignon is planted on 30aº slopes. This produces wines with characteristic concentration, good structure, outstanding colour, and excellent ageing potential.
80% of the wine aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels. The remaining 20% aged in second- and third-use barrels for the same 18 months.
Deep carmine-red colour. The complex nose shows broad notes of ripe red and black fruit, cherry syrup, figs, and blackberry. Its time in French oak barrels is reflected in the toasted notes, sweet spices, tobacco, and hint of wet earth; there’s also some dairy-like toffee and dulce de leche. On the palate the wine is balanced, with extremely silky tannins; broad in body, with well-harmonized acidity and flavours that reflect the aromas on the nose, all leading to a long, fruit-forward, and vibrant finish.

The 2017 Haut-Batailley was cropped at 50hl/ha according to Jean-Charles Cazes since they escaped frost damage. It is the first vintage that the Cazes family have full responsibility for (incidentally, the 2016 remains unsold at time of writing). Matured for 18 months in 60% new oak, it has developed nicely since I last tasted it: blackberry, bilberry, graphite and mint aromas stride out of the glass, veins of blue fruit emerging after a couple of minutes of aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, quite cohesive and dense with good grip towards the finish. There is suppleness here, but there is backbone too.

A wine that lends full expression to the Merlot variety. Fresh and elegant with sweet tannins. Deeply opaque, intense red color with a bright rim indicative of its good condition. Remarkably long finish with a lovely lift of acidity – a perfect balance between its fine tannic structure and an elegant acidity. Silky, with just a touch of sweetness and rather hedonistic, it has a long drawn out finish.

Deep and beautiful ruby red in colour with a bright violet glimmer. The nose offers gorgeous aromas of blueberries, cherries, and violets framed by light notes of nuts, fine pastry, and a lingering touch of truffle that lends elegance. The palate is in perfect agreement with the nose while adding delicate notes of rose petals. It is fresh and juicy and full of life, with elegant, fine-grained tannins that are both firm yet delicate and speak of a wine with tremendous ageing potential.

De Martino Cuvée Gran Vino opens with pure, vibrant aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and plum lifted by notes of graphite, dried herbs, and subtle spice. Brilliant peach skin. Red berries and pit fruits on the nose, and a floral nuance in the background. Silky and open-knit, showing good depth as well as energy to the red currant and nectarine flavors, which pick up a refreshingly bitter orange zest quality on the back half. Finishes long and juicy, with a repeating floral note and subtle grip. Flavorful and intense on the medium- to full-bodied palate yet so very restrained and elegant. Super-value wine as always.

This Sauvignon Blanc has become known as a benchmark for Adelaide Hills, and Australian whites. The familiar Shaw + Smith take on clean, lean Sauvignon Blanc continues to confidently champion a distinctive Adelaide Hills style rather than chase other more overt and pungent examples.
Bursting from the glass comes passionfruit pulp scooped out of the hull, guava and honeydew wedges. Aromas of subtle jasmine blossom and white grapefruit juice. The palate takes on more of a lemon citrus tone with nashi pear and crisp Johnny apple flesh. A luscious mouth feel is complemented by racy acidity and the wine finishes with a swift crispness that only the Hills can provide. You just have to remark at the pedigree of this wine, it’s impossible not to adore it and see why it dominates the Sauvignon Blanc landscape of Australia.

Crafted from younger vines of the estate, this exuberant blend of Chardonnay & Sauvignon Blanc brings apple, pear, lemon, pineapple, melon & citrus zest. Fresh with an excellent acidity, medium body, with a long and mineral finish. Full-bodied, aromas of apple, green mango and stonefruit have a concentrated core, yellow floral, spice and chalk minerals. Vibrant acidity flows effortlessly with a creamy mouthfeel, and chalky minerals and spices contribute to the mouthfeel. This white blend features lively acidity and fruit purity and is elevated by elegant spice elements.

The 2017 Chateau Pape Clement Blanc showed spectacularly well and is one of the wines (if not the wine) of the vintage. Based on 55% Sauvignon and 45% Semillon aged 14 months in barrel, it offers powerful notes of honeyed melon, tart pineapple, green figs, and floral notes as well as a terrific sense of minerality. Concentrated, medium to full-bodied, with rocking levels of acidity, give it 2-4 years and enjoy over the following 15 years or more.

Bright lemon-yellow in colour, the 3 Tales Sauvignon Blanc exudes ripe primary aromas of gooseberry and passionfruit with a mineral tone. The mouth filling palate demonstrates fresh citrus, nectarine and honeyed flavours balanced by Marlborough’s vibrant acidity, leading into a long, lingering finish.
This is comes from Sangiovese with a percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon; The nose is very pleasant, with hints of red and black berry fruits, like cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant and blackberry, followed by elegant spiced notes. Aged in stainless steel, it display a beautiful freshness in mouth, a frank attack, delicate green and lemon flavours, citrus fruits, green apple and kiwi aromas. The minerality gives a long finish to the wine, a smoothness and elegance.
Very pleasant with or without food,in particular with seafood, asparagus, roasted fish and goat’s milk cheese. To be served at 10-11a°C.
