The production of Montes Alpha M is extremely limited and vintages are only released if our head winemaker, Aurelio Montes considers the quality of the wine to be of a good enough standard. Production starts by selecting individual grapes at harvest time. This wine, from the Apalta Valley (a sub-region of Colchagua), is one of the best and most awarded Chilean wines.

Composed of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, yields for the grand vin in 2017 were 43 hectoliters per hectare, and it was aged in 60% new oak. It came in at an alcohol of 13% and an IPT of 68. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Cos d’Estournel needs a little coaxing to unfurl, revealing beautiful expressions of preserved plums, boysenberries, blackcurrant pastilles and wild blueberries with hints of Indian spices, menthol, lilacs and mossy tree bark plus a compelling suggestion of iron ore. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a solid backbone of firm, grainy tannins and well-knit freshness supporting the tightly wound blue and black fruits layers, finishing long and fragrant. This wine will need a good 5-7 years in bottle before it begins to blossom and should go on for at least another 40 years. I expect this wine to be a blockbuster of a head-turner when I come back and taste it at 10 years of age!

‘Buio Buio’ is is deep ruby red in color withcherry highlights. There are complex aromas of red berry fruit and blossoms, balsamic notes, and hints of spices and new oak on the nose. It is rich, full-bodied and well-balanced on the palate with elegant tannins and a long, lingering finish. Pairs well with first courses of game, red meat stews, and aged cheeses.

Aged for about a year in oak, the wine has a beautiful red burgundy dress with garnets notes. Fine and supple, this wine reveal on the palate a round and smooth body. Served at 16 degrees, it will be delicious to accompany cooked meats, roasted meat and grilled fish.

Technical Director Thomas Duroux and his team made one of the most brilliant wines of the 2016 vintage. Palmer is simply exceptional.  Crafted with 47% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot, this is rich and dramatically sweeping in the glass, the 2016 is breathtaking. All the elements simply fall into place in a wine of mesmerizing beauty. The counterpoint of dark, sumptuous fruit and floral notes makes for an utterly compelling Palmer that will take its place among the estate’s finest vintages. The long maceration times on skins and the porous nature of the clay amphora produces quite ethereal style Cabernet. Lighter initially but very stable colour and fine tannin and with a bright aging future. Bright, medium-bodied red, haunting, ethereal, scented autumnal aromas. Mouth-filling flavours, quite supple, fine tannin, gentle, earthen and complex.

The 2016 Ausone is a blend of 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc picked 10-14 October and 14-19 October, respectively, at 40 hectoliters per hectare. It is matured in 80% new oak with a light toasting, a move that Alain and Pauline Vauthier have made in recent years just to lessen the impact of the oak.

There is a palpable stateliness about the Ausone this year. It is extraordinarily pure and articulates its terroir as well as any vintage that I can remember over the last 20-odd years. It is not as flamboyant as other Saint Emilions, more correct and precise. The palate is very elegant and precise. I adore the exquisite balance of this Ausone, the precision and fineness of the tannin, the effortlessness that it conveys. This is classy and sophisticated, satin-like in texture with a long and sensual finish.

Not an Ausone that is going to blaze across the sky, this is a cerebral, intellectual Ausone that will entrance for many years to come.

The 2016 Lascombes has a decadent, but pure bouquet with layers of black cherry and blueberry fruit, the new oak conspicuous and (as usual) quite glossy and extroverted in style. The palate is very ripe with saturated tannin, bold and extravagant with a voluminous middle of blackberry, graphite and blue fruit. There is a powerful and heady finish; what it just lacks is finesse and that sense of personality.

This wine is crafted from Merlot vines planted in our vineyards in 1997, along with a small percentage of Petit Verdot, a variety we have been cultivating since 2006. The name "3055" is a nod to Jean Leon’s New York cab license number, revealing the man behind the legend: an idealist who rose from humble beginnings to achieve his dream of opening the most famous restaurant in Hollywood and creating his own namesake wine.

This wine is aromatic, elegant, seductive, velvety, and contemporary, made from Merlot and Petit Verdot grown in organic vineyards. It boasts a very intense nose and a medium-bodied, balanced palate with pronounced notes of red fruit and spices. Enjoy its long, lingering finish..

Premium White Wine is a Côtes de Provence with exotic and amazing aromas of pineapple, rhubarb, honey and cream. It shows a great depth and a lot of freshness during the tasting. A nice complexity is to be emphasised with smoked notes and grilled almonds. The Rolle varietal (also called Vermentino) bring a lot of structure and minerality to that amazing wine.

The third release in the Harmony Collection has been created in collaboration with Stella and Mary McCartney to celebrate the lush, fertile lands of Scotland that connect all those who have stood upon them for generations. This collaboration celebrates the shared values of The Macallan and The McCartney’s, with love and respect for the natural world at the forefront.

This release embraces the re-use of natural materials in its packaging, creating beauty from resources at the end of their natural lives. To mark this deep connection with the land, discarded meadow cuttings have been given new life in this presentation box and bottle labels. The presentation box features photography by Mary McCartney of The Macallan Estate. The Macallan Whisky Mastery Team have taken inspiration from natural Scottish grasslands to create this distinctive expression, redolent of warm meadows and mature barley fields, with a rich, citrus scented finish, using a combination of both sherry seasoned oak and bourbon casks.

Rich orange and lemon, honeysuckle, vanilla, coconut and ripe barley fields. Rich oak, lemon, melon, classic scone, almond and green tea. Rich, sweet, long and complex finish.

The Lion & Dragon Rosé from Château Roubine in Provence reveals a bright, light red color in the swirled glass. When swirling the wine glass, one can perceive a first-class balance in this rosé wine, as it does not stand out on the walls of the glass, neither watery nor syrupy or liqueur-like. To the nose, this Château Roubine rosé wine shows all sorts of lemons, strawberries and pears. As if that weren't already impressive, the aging in large wooden barrels adds other aromas like toasted wood.

This rosé wine is never coarse or meager, as one might expect from a top wine. Balanced and multifaceted, this light rosé wine presents itself on the palate. In the finish, this youthful rosé wine from the wine-growing region of Provence finally inspires with considerable length. The 2016 Angelus is composed of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, aged 18 to 22 months in new barrels and foudres. Deep garnet-purple colored, it drifts effortlessly out of the glass with sensuous notes of lavender, candied violets, garrigue, Ceylon tea and iron ore with a core of warm black cherries, mulberries, ripe plums and aniseed plus wafts of cedar chest and cloves. Medium to full-bodied, the perfumed fruit whispers of great intensity and depth, with the vivacious fruit well knit into the plush, seductive frame of velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and mineral laced. Still very tightly wound with amazing tension at this stage, it truly needs a good 6-8 more years in bottle to deliver the fully expressed layers that this soft-spoken, profound beauty promises.
