This fairly uncommon Gin comes from the Black Forest in Germany, Monkey 47 contains a fairly unusual ingredient: Cranberries! The 47 comes from the number of botanicals that go into this unique gin, and the fact it’s bottled at a healthy 47%. Predictably complex, this is a robust and powerful gin with plenty of spice, fruit and herb flavours. It’s very well structured, and difficult to unpick but a citrus fresh start segues into pine and wood notes for a drying finish.

Hailing from the Black Forest region in Central Germany Monkey 47 is an exotic gin made with a molasses base. The ‘47’ number refers to the amount of botanicals used ( such as unlikely fruit ingredients like lingonberries, blackberries, and honey pomelo), together with the alcohol level of 47.0%. These are combined with a host of recognizable gin botanicals such as chamomile, sage, angelica, coriander, and a whole array of others. Another anomaly at Monkey 47 is that the distillate is aged in earthenware containers for three months before being brought to 47 degrees alcohol with the forest’s celebrated water.
