Luce della Vite is a visionary winery launcher in 1995 by the Frescobaldi & Mondavi families, with the idea of producing the 1st and best 'Super-Tuscan' wine from the Montalcino sub-region of Tuscany, renowned for our world-famous Brunello de Montalcino wines, a classic Italian wine crafted from 100% Sangiovese. The estate was the 1st one to introduce 'international' grapes in the region, with a predominant of Merlot, planted on the lower part of the Montalcino hill. ‘Luce’ is the flagship cuvee, and the 1st ever ‘Super-Tuscan’ created in Montalcino, combining the roundness and softness of Merlot with the structure and elegance of Sangiovese. After careful selection in the vineyards, it spend 24 months in oak barrels, 100% new.

The 2014 Luce is a seductive showing which is impressive for its depth and complex personality. This profound blend of sangiovese and Merlot bursts opens with aromatics of blackberries, dark cherries woven together with pencil shavings, toast, spices, cinnamon, spring florals and underlying hints of gingerbread. On the palate this is full-bodied and layered with a muscular texture and polished tannins making for a irresistible mouthfeel. The finish is long and multi-demsional with dark fruits, spices and graphite lingering on and on. Overall, this is a complete success for this stylish tuscan wine. While it is already extremely compelling and simply delicious upon release it should also continue to age beautifully for more than a decade.
