A predominant grape across the range, Pinot Noir is the pillar of the Bollinger style, and the House has forged its reputation by showcasing this variety. Bollinger PN embodies the ambition to bring to light the variety of expressions of pinot noir by selecting the finest varietal from several terroirs, each contributing a unique component to the overall taste.

The PN TX17 edition explores the unique interpretation of pinot noir from specific villages. PN TX 17 is an assembly of 100% Pinot Noir, predominantly from the Grand Cru village of Tauxières. It is blended with other villages on the Montage de Reims, such as Avenay and Verzenay. The base year is 2017, with older wines also feature from our reserve magnums, the oldest of which dates back to 2006. Its ageing period in the cellar is twice as long as required by appellation regulations and its dosage is very low: 4 grams per litre.

The significant proportion of Tauxières in this edition’s blend expresses the characteristics of the Pinot Noir from this terroir. Reserve wines, aged in magnums, are added to bring a sense of aromatic harmony and further complexity to the blend. Notes of dried flowers, joined by aromas of tobacco and mocha. Liquorice and dried fruit round off these sophisticated, subtle and complex aromas. A very fruity, lively facet with notes of cooked apricot, peach and exotic fruit, followed by flavours of acacia honey, fresh walnut and spices. A wonderful salinity complements the acidity of the wine.

PN TX17 is a wine to be enjoyed by enthusiasts interested in the expression of Pinot Noir from across the Champagne region. To fully appreciate its unique style and aromas, this wine is best served between 8 and 10°C. You can enjoy PN TX 17 now or leave it in the cellar to develop further.

About The Brand

The Bollinger champagne House has created prestigious champagnes with character, distinguished by their elegance and complexity, since 1829. These outstanding wines are the result of rigorous attention to detail, for Bollinger accepts nothing less than excellence. Each and every detail represents a quest for a certain form of perfection. This uncompromisingly independent spirit, dedicated to ostentatious achievement, exemplifies the inimitable elegance for which the Champagne region is renowned and which has so impressed the Court of England that the House has been awarded the Royal Warrant since 1884.

The House’s 178 hectares are planted with 85% of Grand Cru and Premier Cru vines, spread over seven main vineyards: Aÿ, Avenay, Tauxieres, Louvois and Verzenay are planted with Pinot Noir, Cuis with Chardonnay and Champvoisy with Pinot Meunier. Bollinger is one of a very few champagne Houses to produce the majority of their own grapes for their blends.

Pinot Noir represents 60% of the House’s vineyard, corresponding to the exact proportion of this demanding grape variety in the Special Cuvee blend. Complex and powerful, it provides Bollinger wines with their remarkable structure. Another of Bollinger’s distinctive features are two plots, the Clos Saint-Jacques and Chaudes Terres, which have never succumbed to phylloxera, the disease which ravaged almost all of the champagne wine-growing area in the early 20th century. These ungrafted vines are entirely tended by hand and reproduced using a form of layering called provignage, thereby providing the means to preserve this extraordinary heritage from which the very exclusive ‘Vieilles Vignes Francaises’ cuvee is produced.

Since 2011, Maison Bollinger is certified High Environmental Value (HEV) corresponds to the highest level of a more general scheme of environmental certification for farms & vineyards. The environmental certification is a voluntary approach which aims to identify and promote particularly environmentally-friendly practices applied by growers. HEV covers four key areas: biodiversity conservation, plant protection strategy, management of fertiliser use and management of water.
